Have I been saying yes to the wrong things?

This morning I woke up feeling bloated, bleery-eyed and drained; not a great way to start the day.

As I sat on the edge of my bed, a thought popped into my head, that proverbial light bulb came on. Actually it was more like a flashing neon-light which read…

I think I’ve been saying yes to the wrong things.

It hurts me to even write these word: ‘I’ve been saying yes to food and drinks that are wrong for me.’

Why does it pain me so much to write this? Because, by nature, I am a complete and utter ‘Permitter’ and I like it!

You see, I have this theory that there are two types of people in the world: Permitters and Restrictors.

Permitters can’t be bothered with plans and food ‘rules’. They pretty much eat what they like, when they like.

Restrictors like to follow food rules and are very rigid with what they eat. They can tell you the fat count, calorie count and carb intake of all they eat.

If you know me well, you probably know straight away which category I fit into. If you don’t know me well…I am a TOTAL permitter!

‘Would you like dessert?’ Yes please!

‘Hey Mel, you wanna come out for lunch?’ Absolutely!

‘Do you want bacon and fries with that?’ Pile it high sista!

Ok, so being totally 100% honest with you…I’m on a plane right flying back to Newcastle tucking into a glass of wine and cheese and crackers as I write this.

Because, well, the flight attendant came around and said do you want anything to drink, and I thought, ‘Well it’s lunchtime and I’m still on my conference break so, ‘Sure, I’ll have a wine.’’

And then she said, ‘Do you want the cheese and crackers with that?’…And of course I said ‘Yes’!

I love being spontaneous and saying ‘Yes’ to things in life. Being a Permitter has led me to some great places, people and fantastic opportunities.

But I’m not sure that it is serving my body well.

I believe that we all need to be kind to ourselves: mind, body and soul. It is one of my visions for The Sista Code: for women to be kinder to themselves.

But I’m not sure that being a Permitter is allowing me to nurture and be kinder to my body.

So…(big deep breath)…I’m making a change.

I began sharing all these thoughts with my dear friend, Belinda Smith from ‘Girl Get Your Groove On’, and we made the decision that it was time to take better care of ourselves.

Given that Spring is only week and a half away, we thought this would be the perfect time for a Spring Clean of our mind, body and soul!

I don’t know about you, but I am a total creature of habit – both good and bad. So I know the key for me is to break the habits that aren’t serving me and create new habits that will.

They say that it takes 21 days to break a habit and 21 days to make a habit, so I’m thinking the Spring Clean will be a 21 day challenge to myself.

A challenge to:

  • declutter our lives
  • to eat cleaner
  • to feel calmer
  • live more consciously, more mindfully
  • to be kinder to our Mind, Body and Soul!

    Lol great video Mel – you need to come and borrow my cold press juicer and add some viral greens for nutrients and sweetness

    You are gold Mel! I’ll bring my vitamix over and a couple of recipes to try that won’t leave you gaging! Adding some vanilla protein powder and half a frozen banana will make this taste sooooo much better, plus a normal blender won’t make it smooth enough (ie you will be left with crunchy bits). Go sista!
