Surviving a narcissistic parent

A narcissistic parent can be defined as someone who lives through, is possessive of, and/or engages in marginalizing competition with their child. Typically, the narcissistic parent perceives the independence of a child (including adult children) as a threat, and coerces them to exist in the parent’s shadow, with unreasonable expectations. In a narcissistic parenting relationship, the child is rarely loved just for being herself or himself. People are accessories to them, and little more than a disposable means to meet their own ends.

In this episode, Counsellor and psychotherapist, Kaz Amos, and ‘Hey Soul Sista’ host and CEO of ‘Got Your Back Sista’ charity, Mel Histon, talk about how to survive a narcissistic parent!
